Bendix Gives Advice on Choosing the Right Brake Pads to Re
Have you ever experienced brake fade while driving down a steep winding road? According to brake manufacturer Bendix, this is caused by the friction between your brakes overheating which makes the materials of the brakes. The results could - function.
Brake fade, the company said occurs due to the extra weight of the object being towed, often weighing more than the brakes’ system was designed for. It can also occur in vehicles with worn or poorly adjusted brakes descending long hills.
The weight of your car, Bendix explained is also cru- cial in determining how your car will handle brake fad- ing. The heavier cars such as big MPVs or SUVs will require more braking force to stop. Therefore, the car manufacturers have taken the initiative to make brakes components bigger or instead selecting suitable brake pads material to ensure the safety of the car braking performance.
As most of the original brake pads are designed to withstand a substantial amount of friction and heat, the company pointed out that having a Semi-Metallic, better heat-insulated pad will help handle the additional brak- ing demand.
“Take Bendix Metal King Titanium as an example. Ben- dix Metal King Titanium features a SMF technology (Superior Metallic Formulation) with a unique insulation layer that performs extremely well at high temperatures. This brake pad provides excellent braking performance which lasts up to twice as long as all-purpose brake pads in hard working and high temperature conditions. They perform remarkably well on steep and winding roads and are highly suitable for active and frequent
Here are a few simple measures suggested by the com- pany that you can take to minimise the risk of brake fade while at the same time reducing your brake pads' wear and tear.
1) Avoid stepping on the brakes repeatedly during high speeds as it could easily overheat the system, subsequently causing the braking to not function at its optimum performance. (Stepping repeatedly brakes.)
2) If possible, avoid unnecessarily heavy braking.
3) Slow down or drive in a low gear to make use of the engine braking.
