Kumho Tyre to Supply OE Tyres for Škoda Octavia
Kumho’s ever-growing portfolio of Original Equipment contracts has been further en- hanced by Škoda, whose latest generation Octavia now comes equipped with Kumho’s Ultra- High Performance (UHP) ECSTA PS71 tyre in size 205/60 R16 92V.
The asymmetrically-patterned PS71 was one of company’s new R&D Centre at Yongin near Seoul, South Korea, and has been designed for outstand- ing high-speed stability and strong wet weather performance. It also scores highly on mileage
and rivals its predecessor, the Ecsta KU39 LE Sport, for braking perfor- mance on wet roads, which was
one of the most notable fea-
tures of the earlier product.
The robust tread blocks and
the increased durability of
belts and beads are de-
signed to result in agile and
sophisticated handling,
while the optimum design
of each rib ensures stable
driving at high speeds. The
sidewall and tread have
used in motorsport, empha-
sising the sporting image of
this UHP tyre. Its credentials
have been further enhanced
by the receipt of an iF Design
Award, one of the world’s top three
design accolades. PS71 is readily
available on the UK aftermarket in a wide selection of V to Y-rated sizes from 16 to 20 inches
The Octavia is Škoda’s top-selling model, that com- bines a sporty multifunctional character with state- of-the-art technology. The model has gained con- siderable traction across both the Far East and, of course, Europe – for example in Germany, where it was the eighth most popular car last year. Now in its fourth generation, the Octavia is still manufac- tured in its original plant in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic.
