Yokohama Wins Reifen 2014 Innovation Award
2014
Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd won the Innovation Award in the Tech- nology and Product category at the Reifen 2014. Shigeyuki Aoki, President of Yokohama Reifen GmbH, received the award during opening of the show.
The award was presented in recognition of the innovative simulation tech- nology developed by Yokohama Rubber researchers working together with a team of researchers led by Professor Kozo Fujii at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), the research arm of the Japan Aero- - ing on a road surface and the acoustic waves (noise) generated from these structures. Its key technological breakthrough is the realisation of a vorti- measurement of acoustic waves. This simulation technology opens up the potential for new technological breakthroughs that could lead to the reduc- tion of pass-by noise and improvement of aerodynamic performance.
A manufacturer-independent expert jury evaluates candidate products, tech- nologies and services on nine criteria, such as environmental compatibility, sustainability, innovative content and safety, and presents the award to the most excellent candidates in each category. Yokohama Rubber was recog- nised in the Technology and Product category. The simulation technology was recognised as particularly innovative with the potential for preserving the earth’s environment and lightening burdens on a vehicle’s passengers as well as the surrounding living environments.
Michelin to Become MotoGP Tyre Supplier from 2016
2016 MotorGP
Michelin will replace Bridgestone as the sole distributor of MotorGP from 2016. This was announced by Dorna Sports, promoter and organiser of the MotoGP World Chamopionship.
“Our policy of carrying over our technologies from track to street be introduced in 2016 and that will dictate the use of 17-inch wheels. That is why Michelin decided to submit a bid following the tender process instigated by Dorna Sports. We take this op- expertise and the 26 Riders’ world titles it has secured”, says Michelin Motorsport’s Director Pascal Couasnon.
The MotoGP World Championship features the discipline’s most technologically sophisticated bikes, the power output of which exceeds 250bhp. The level of performance they deliver both mechanically and dynamically is very high. The series also tyres. The discipline consequently serves as an exceptional proving ground for the technological innovations of tomorrow.
