performance, tyres should be replaced when the tyre groove wears below 2mm to 3mm.
The periodic rotation of tyres, achieved by repositioning the front tyres to the back and vice versa will help to prevent uneven wear, thereby extending the lifespan of the tyres and saving money. Most importantly, it contributes to safety as well as improving the quality of driving performance. Periodic rotation is an essential part of tyre care as wear is spread evenly across all four tyres, which maximises the tyre tread life. Front tyres usually bear the larger fraction of the vehicle’s motion of torque and friction, and due to this the tread depth and pattern tend to deteriorate faster. In general, it is best practice to rotate tyres every six months or after 10,000km on the road.
The tyre balance must be checked if there is unexpected vibration or noise from balancing is a process of compensating for the weight of the tyre and wheel after assembly. If the tyre is not properly balanced, it can increase vibration to the
The right time to do tyre balancing is when the driver feels a vibration coming from a tyre. This is when a visit to the mechanic should be done, so the mechanic can attach a balancing weight to the exterior or interior of the wheel to counteract centrifugal forces acting on the heavy areas when the wheel is turning.
Tyre alignment is another necessary step in the complete tyre care and mainte- nance checklist, in order to prevent vibration, skidding, noise and tyre wear. If the tyre is not aligned, it could pose unexpected accidents, shorten the lifespan of the tyre and increase expenses. A misaligned tyre is noticeable when the steering wheel pulls to one direction or another, even though the driver is trying to drive straight. This can potentially be very dangerous especially in wet road conditions as it could cause the vehicle to hydroplane and lose traction with the road surface.
Alignment is the process of adjusting the vehicle suspension components to bring the tyres back to optimal steering stability. Laufenn recommends that a tyre alignment inspection be done every year or for every 20,000km. However, an inspection is required in situations such as after an accident or if a tyre has been replaced when there is uneven wear on the tyre shoulder. Other relevant situa- tions include when the steering wheel is unstable and/or vibrating, when riding is
Laufenn strongly recommends that drivers know when they should replace the and riding comfort. A tyre should be replaced in situations of severe tyre erosion and when a repair is impossible due to a bad puncture.
An important thing to note is that it is best to replace two tyres on one axle at the same time, as the replacement of one tyre of two on the same axle usually causes imbalance to the vehicle. In the case of a damaged tyre, replacement should only be done by a trained and experienced technician.
