In 2000, the company underwent a name change from Woosung - tions. The name Nexen is a combination of two future-oriented words; next and century. In 2005, the company set up Nexen Tire America and was awarded a patent for the technology to manu- tyre manufacturing plant was opened in Qingdao, China in 2007 and a third factory broke ground in Changnyeong, Korea in 2012.
To engage growing replacement and original equipment demand, Nexen Tire Europe built a European factory in the Czech Re- public. It has been in operation since May 2019 with the aim of expanding its capacity to more than 12 million units a year by 2020. The company also established a global research and de- velopment (R&D) network led by its main R&D centre in Yang- san, Korea along with its facilities in the United States, China and Germany.
