Sales for the month of May stood at 49,603 units against 47,207 units a year ago, which constitutes a 5.08 per cent increase.
MAA Expects Sales in June Better than May 2022
According to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA)’s report, the vehicle sales for the month of May 2022 stood at 49,603 units, as compared to 56,213 units sold in April, which saw a drop of 11.8 per cent.
The short working month due to the Hari Raya festive period, the shortage of chips and components, as well as logistics disruptions continue to affect some brands, were the reasons contributed to drop.
Sales for the month of May stood at 49,603 units against 47,207 units a year ago, which constitutes a 5.08 per cent increase. May’s sales for passenger cars hit 43,710 units as compared to last May’s 42,515 units, representing a 10 per cent increase. The year-to-date sales volume for the end of May 2022 was 7.4 per cent higher than similar corresponding period last year.
The Association is expecting that sales in June 2022 will be better than May 2022. A sales tax exemption incentive for consumers to buy passenger vehicles (which is due to expire by end June 2022) and an aggressive push for sales by car companies is expected to give registrations impetus. However a shortage of chips and components, as well as the supply chain disruptions will continue to affect some brands.
