The new vehicle sales in April dropped as compared to last year due to shortage of chips and components.
YTD Passenger Vehicle Sales Inreased 6.1 Per Cent
Based on the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) monthly report, the new vehicle sales in April 2022 came in at 56,213 units as compare to last year’s 58,329 units, representing a drop of 3.63 per cent. This was due to shortage of chips and components, as well as shipment delays, affected some companies.
The total sales were made up of 49,815 units of passenger vehicles and 6,398 units of commercial vehicles with the YTD sales for passenger vehicles increasing 6.1 per cent in April as against the same period in 2021.
The Total Industry Volume (TIV) for April was 23 per cent lower than March 2022 (which was at 73,222 units). However, much of the sales had been fulfilled by companies having their financial year ended on 31st March.
Compared to the same period in 2021, year to date (YTD) sales in April reached 215,965 units which is 7.96 per cent higher from the 200,043 units seen in the previous year. The total sales were made up of 190,405 units of passenger vehicles and 25,560 units of commercial vehicles.
