The Malaysian Automotive Association’s (MAA) latest figures for January show a clear 9% increase in production and 14% rise in sales for passenger vehicles, in reassuring news for the sector after 2021 fell short on 2020 levels.
Encouraging Levels for First Month of 2022
Starting with the production statistics, there were 39,455 vehicles produced in January 2022, against 36,186 units from the previous January, making for a 9% increase.
The sales figures were even better for this past January, with 33,668 units sold against 29,417 units in January 2021.
The MAA does note that the total industry volume was 38% lower than in December 2021, although the Association does point out that the floods which affected the East Coast and Klang Valley over January definitely affected the supply chain for certain brands.
For February, the month should maintain the same level of sales even though it is a shorter month, although the ongoing disruption from flooding and supply chains problems will definitely be a factor eating into February.
