Malacca Tyre Trade Association Celebrates 11th Anniversary

The Malacca Tyre Trade Associa- tion celebrated its 11th Anniver- sary recently at Restaurant L.T.P Sdn Bhd, Melaka. In conjunction with the celebration, the Association also held its sixth committee members’ (2022-2023) inauguration ceremony.
The event was well attended by about 700 people, including representatives from the state tyre associations, suppli- ers, guests and media. Also present was the Melaka Chief Minister’s special sec- retary Yong Fun Juan, who represented Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Lim Ban Hong, Mem- ber of Parliament for Kota Melaka Khoo Poay Tiong and Malaysian Association of Tyre Retreaders & Dealers Societies (MATRDS) President Tee Tau.
Lim’s speech was read by Yong during the event. In the speech, Lim revealed that a foreign company would set up a tyre recycling plant in Melaka. This fac- tory would remove the oil and steel wires from the waste tyres and recycle them while the Melaka state government would ensure that the factory’s production op- erations complied with the regulations set by the Ministry of Environment. Lim believed that the establishment of the factory would partially solve the waste tyre recycling issue in the state. He also
mentioned that Yong would be responsi- ble for resolving the waste tyre recycling problem faced by tyre dealers.
“We found out from the Melaka solid waste management agency and SWM Environment Sdn Bhd that Melaka tyre dealers could use the services of qual- contractors that have a licence for carry- ing solid waste, to transport their waste added.
He urged the Association to schedule a dialogue with the Melaka solid waste management agency and SWM Environ- ment to resolve the issue.
After the speech, Yong represented Lim and State Assemblyman for Machap Jaya Ngwe Hee Sem in contributing RM3000 and RM1000 respectively to the Association.
Meanwhile, MATRDS President Tee MATRDS and the state tyre associations as they could not celebrate their respec- tive anniversary and hold meetings. He was glad that the Malacca Tyre Trade As- sociation took the lead this time to host an anniversary celebration and inauguration ceremony for its committee members.

This is an old topic and it is related to the industry that is involved in the extraction of oil and by-products from waste tyres. Waste tyres are the only raw material for the extraction of this unique oil but some argue that the process is harmful to the environment. The Malaysian state governments have a strict control on waste tyres and the de- mand for waste tyres is seasonal and not very consistent. It also depends on the areas. MATRDS would continue to follow up on this issue and hold meetings when necessary as well update all state asso-
