A - hicles (EVs), in particular passenger vehicles (PV) and two-wheelers. The Apollo Amperion range of tyres for the PV segment and the Apollo WAV range for the two-wheelers were launched recently in the Indian market.
The Apollo Amperion, with its best-in-class rolling resistance (RR), low noise, electric tread pattern and aerodynamic sidewall, caters to the EVs in the hatchback, compact SUV and sedan segments in India such as the Tata Nexon, MG ZSE, Hyundai Kona and
The Apollo WAV, with its specialised design, low rolling resistance, low weight and high traction to resist initial torque, caters to the majority of high-powered electric scooters available in the country such as the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450. The compa- ny plans to develop EV tyres for motorcycles in the next phase, considering the extremely low number in this category currently.
Commenting on the EV tyre launch, Satish Sharma, President, Ltd, said: “Tyre design and manufacturing have always evolved along with the automobiles. Our teams have invested years of research to understand the changing dynamics and require- ments of vehicles in the EV space to perfect the product that we launch today. We are already in discussion with multiple OEMs in India to supply these tyres for the electric vehicles and would target a lion’s share in the EV space in India, in both PV and two-wheeler segments.”
Apollo Tyres has come out with distinctive technologies to build these products. ‘AQuT Tech’ (Apollo Quiet Tyre Technology) works on the tyre cavity, pattern and construction to reduce noise. It also developed the ‘BEST Tech’ (Battery Energy Saver Technol- ogy), which is deployed using the ultra-low RR technology pack- age, that helps extend the battery range of electric vehicles. The

R&D Team used the Design Mood Board philosophy for design inspiration. The Apollo Amperion design is said to be inspired by and the Apollo WAV is inspired by the digital circuit board design.
