lysing the various segments that might be open to us. We can then grow from a position of more knowledge.”
With regards to potential sales to the EU, Hutt explained that the company - which allows companies to export certain goods for processing and then re-import them without taxes. This, the company felt, would allow them to be able to operate in markets as far away as Europe and still re- main competitive.
In the meantime, the company is now also focusing on achieving DOT ac- creditation, which would allow export to North America, although this is a couple of years down the line.
As things stand, Kayel are able to produce retreads both from stock casings as well as well as retreads manufactured on a COC basis. They also have both mould cure and pre- cure capabilities, although accord- ing to Hutt, the company will be focusing on marketing its premium range of precure retreads and has more interest in providing a process outsourcing service than supplying stock retreads.
Currently, around 90 per cent of Kayel’s production in Malaysia con- sists of tyres in sizes 295/80R22.5 or 11R22.5, so with that in mind the company will initially be focusing on such as waste management.
In terms of target clientele, the com- pany is open minded. “There are Hutt, “but if we stick our toe in the
routes to market.”
Essentially, however, there are label retreading services for tyre manufacturers – something the company already does. Larger and casing dealers are also po- tential partners for a COC pro- cess outsourcing service.
In the meantime, though Kayel’s focus is on increasing interna- tional awareness of the Group’s capabilities and its status as a quality retreader. With that in mind, the company was delight- ed to be announced the winner of the “Spirit of Retreading” Award in the recently announced Re- circle Awards. “This has come at exactly the right time,” comment- ed Michael Hutt. “With contend- ers from South Africa, USA and Europe, Kayel Tyres was proud to be the only Malaysian winner in any of the award categories. This award marks the recogni- tion of the hard work and dedi- cation that has gone into making high quality, and safe retreads in Malaysia.”
