Setia Tyre: Safety Comes First with Maruni Tyre R
Since its inception in 1985, Setia Tyre Repair Product (M) Sdn Bhd has been involved with car and tyre repair products and tools. Today, the company is one of the leading suppliers in Malaysia with the widest range of the tyre repair products and tools in the local market.
“In 2018, we were appointed by Maruni Tyre Repair as one of their distributors in Malay- sia. Two years after that appointment, we have become their sole distributor in the country. Maruni was founded in 1914 as a specialised manufacturer of puncture tyre re- pair materials for bicycle tyres. With the dra- matic development of motorisation, Maruni has advanced with time and evolved as a comprehensive repair material manufac- turer, covering motorcycles, passenger cars, trucks, buses and heavy-construction equip- ment,” said Managing Director S.H. Chia.
Being a tyre repair specialist, Chia stressed the importance of proper tyre repair. Current- ly, he said, most of the tyre repairs that have been carried out are temporary repairs using string plugs, which are not Maruni products and don’t vulcanise properly, as the plugs are form of sticky type. This, he pointed out is currently the quickest, easiest and most in- expensive way of repairing a punctured tyre.
“The biggest concern of driving on a plugged tyre is that there is still a hole in the tyre. Al- recognise that there is a structural failure in the tyre that needs to be addressed. The im- pact might not be so severe for passenger cars as compared to trucks, especially when driving at high speed on the highway. Tyre plugs can also potentially cause trapped air between the layers of tread that eventually contribute to the tyre’s ply separation. In ad- dition, the nail hole might become larger over time and lead to tyre explosion. Thus, it is im- portant to have the punctured tyre inspected and safely repaired,” he explained.
