The company’s challenges are not so much from the automotive and tyre servicing owners, but mainly from the technicians, Liew explained. “The technicians are reluctant to un- dertake permanent tyre repair as - other challenge is with limited space, as the owner is constantly striving to improve vehicle turnaround time.”
Liew Koon Marketing has success- - pair training, not only for their local and regional customers but also for the members of the Malaysian Asso- ciation of Tyre Retreaders & Dealers Societies (MATRDS).
“We also cooperate with our vendors such as Tech in providing training to the major tyre dealers, and we believe that this will allow us the op- portunity to educate them on the im- repair. A properly repaired tyre will not void your tyre warranty. It allows the tyre to run out its remaining tread life while keeping the driver safe, which also contributes to environ- mental conservation. Adding proper tyre repair into your service line is not only providing you extra income but also helps you to boost custom- ers retention as it prevents the tyre from further damage.”
Besides passenger car tyre repair, the company is also an expert in (OTR) tyre repair. “Puncture repair at the crown and shoulder area of the tyre is possible, as well as sidewall repair as long as the puncture is no larger than 6 mm for truck and bus radial (TBR) tyres. For sidewall re- pair, a vulcanising system is required to cure the repair. As the system is quite expensive, many tyre dealers and retreaders send their truck and OTR tyres to us to repair.”
Liew Koon Marketing became Tech tyre repair materials’ distributor about 3 years ago. To meet the various tyre repair supply requirements from the industry, the other brands that the company carries include QuikFix, the second brand from Tech, Kwik from India as well as their own house brand Hi-Tec.
