Giti Tire broke the mould this year by featuring an all-fe- male Volkswagen Golf team with WS Racing, for which the drivers, technical support and track crew were all women. Led by Team Chief Ellen Lehmann, this was long and illustrious history. The ‘Giti’s Angels’ team re- ceived a high level of attention leading up to the race, in- cluding at the Nurburgring where they were often sought out for autographs and photos with guests.
Following the successful testing rounds in the days pri- or, the driver team of Jasmin Preisig, Carrie Schreiner and Ronja Assmann was very optimistic for their per- and their VW Golf GTI was running smoothly. The 24-hour race demonstrated that Nürburgring is among the best tyre testing ground in the world. With a mix of extreme and constantly changing sun, rain, heat and cold conditions, the GitiCompete GTR1 tyres were put to intensive tests during each lap. Giti says that simply completing the race over 24 hours - onstrated the high performance and success of Giti’s tyres.
The same technology used to develop these racing tyres is also used for the at the ‘Ultimate Proving Ground’. In addition, the results and data obtained from the testing are used for future product development and improvements.
Besides this 24 Hours race, numerous additional motor sports activities are held globally using Giti tyres. This includes the Giti-sponsored Formula 3 Asian Championship, which took to the tracks of Suzuka, Japan in exciting action in the same month. This racing series also included GitiCompete GTR1 tyres on all vehicles and would conclude this year’s calendar in September.
