Hankook has been awarded a platinum medal by Ecovadis, one of the highest recognition for achievements in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The medal is only awarded to companies that are in the top 1% of their industry sector.
Hankook Receives Recognition from Ecovadis
Ecovadis is an international institute based in France that offers reliable ratings in the field of social responsibility. The ratings are divided into four topic areas: environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. The institute assesses around 6,500 companies from 160 countries around the world. The medals range from platinum, gold, silver to bronze.
Tyre manufacturer Hankook was honoured with the platinum medal for its clear CSR objectives, its participation in various sustainability initiatives and its CSR-related policies. The company’s particularly ambitious goals include the use of 100% sustainable materials and a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 compared to 2018. The company also participates in sustainability initiatives with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and promotes CSR-related policies such as the Sustainable Natural Rubber Policy. This puts Hankook in the top 1% of 353 companies that manufacture rubber products worldwide in the CSR field.
Last year, Hankook received the gold medal from Ecovadis, which honours the best 5% of companies. Following the introduction of the Platinum Medal this year to honour the best 1% companies, the award has enabled Hankook to position itself once again as a leading company and to clarify its position in the ranking. Hankook has again proved itself to be a top-tier global company that executes sustainable business practices based on its continued and strengthened commitment to sustainability.
“Hankook is honoured to be, once again, recognized by Ecovadis. We believe this is a statement to our efforts in building a sustainable ecosystem for the industry as well as our pursuit of being socially responsible in every aspect of the business,” says Sanghoon Lee, President of Hankook Tire Europe. “We take great pride in our sustainability initiatives, and will continue our commitment to make the world that we live in a better place.”
