According to figures released by the Malaysian Automotive Association, year-on-year passenger vehicle sales saw a drop of almost 60% in March as the government implemented phase 1 of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Car Sales Halted by COVID-19
Following the trend of other automotive sectors across the globe, vehicle sales in Malaysia have been immensely impacted by the containment measures enforced by the government. March saw 20,260 passenger vehicle sales registered compared with 50,101 in the same period in 2019.
The worst could still be yet to come with April’s figures due to arrive as the Malaysian Automotive Association hinted at very few sales in the month due the extension of the MCO.
