Malaysia’s vehicle sales in August 2020 was higher by 3 per cent to 52,800 units from 51, 148 units in the same month last year.
New Vehicles in August 2020 Up 6.9 per cent
According to Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), the total of passenger vehicles was up by 1.7 per cent to 47,591 units in August 2020 from 46,802 units in last year August. Commercial vehicles in August 2020 also increased by 19 per cent in August 2020, from 4, 346 units registered in the same period a year ago to 5,209 units.
However, the sales volume for August 2020 was 8 per cent lower than July 2020, which accounted for 57,552 units because of shorter working month resulted from a few festive holidays. July’s sales volume was higher due to clearance backing orders after the announcement of sales tax exemption incentive from government,
The production of new vehicles in August 2020 rose 6.9 per cent year-on-year to 50,228 units from 47,000 produced last year.
As compared to August 2019, production for passenger vehicles increased from 44,363 units to 47,934 units in August 2020.
MAA expected that sales volume in September 2020 to be maintained at August 2020’s level with the on-going promotion campaigns by car companies. Consumers’ sentiments remain cautious with the loan moratorium coming to an end by 30th September 2020.
