October Vehicle Sales Up due to Promotional Activities
Based on the vehicle sales data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), the vehicle sales in Malaysia has increased by 5.2 per cent, from 53,870 units October last year to 56,670 units in the same month this year.
The sales of passenger vehicles surged to 51,795 unit in October 2020 from 48,987 units in the similar corresponding month in 2019, while the sales of commercial vehicles dropped to 4,875 units from 4,883 units. On a month-on-month basic, the sales volume for October 2020 was 0.4 per cent higher than September 2020.
MAA attributed the improvement of sales performance in October to the new model launches and on-going aggressive promotional campaigns by car companies.
In terms of total production, MAA said, 58,631 vehicles were produced in October 2020 compared with 55,775 units in the same month last year.
The production of passenger vehicles was up from 55,063 units in October 2020 as compared to 52,191 in the same month of 2019, while the production of commercial vehicles decreased to 3,568 units from 3,584 previously.
On the outlook for November 2020, the Association expected the sales volume to be lower than October 2020 level. This it said, is due to the impact of a full month implementation of conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Peninsular Malaysia, except for Perlis, Pahang and Kuantan, which resulted in reduction traffic volume to automotive showrooms.
