Based on the data revealed by the MAA, the sales volume for passenger vehicles in February 2021 was 2 per cent higher than in February 2020.
MAA Expects Higher Sales Volume in March
The total vehicle sales which includes commercial vehicles has increased 4.13 per cent year-on-year to 42,784 units in February, from 41,088 units in February 2020. This, according to Malaysia Automotive Association (MAA) is due to the traffic volume to showrooms showed much improvement after the lifting of Movement Control Order (MCO) in certain states.
Passenger vehicle’s sales volume in February 2021 was 2 per cent higher than the corresponding month last year, with an increase of 564 units over the 37,359 units sold in February last year.
Meanwhile, total vehicle production in February increased to 45,199 units from 40, 371 units as compared to a year ago, representing an increase of 11.96 per cent. The passenger vehicle production grew 9 per cent from 37,893 units in February 2020 to 41,301 units.
Year to date figures show that the total vehicle production in 2021 so far has dropped 1.08 per cent to 84, 865 units from 85,787 units a year ago.
MAA expects sales volume in March 2021 will be higher than February 2021. This, according to the Association is contributed by the rush for the deliveries by companies having their financial year ending on 31st March 2021 and the resumption of JPJ’s full services for all types of vehicle transactions.
